With holidays starting to get back to normal, you may not have had the chance to book a winter escape just yet. If you are looking to plan a road trip with the family or some friends in the UK instead, you are spoilt for choice on attractions to visit this winter. Whether you’re interested in traditional Christmas markets and mulled wine or something a bit more active like ice skating, we have highlighted a wide range of festive events that can help get you in the spirit this December 2021.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

A popular annual event, Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park has plenty to offer and provides different types of fun for visitors of all ages to enjoy. If you are a fan of ice rinks, this is home to the largest in the UK, so you won’t be disappointed. Then, once you have moved on from skating there are a wide selection of restaurants and street food stands you can visit to grab a bite. Open from 10am-10pm and running from 19th November until 3rd January 2022, you will have plenty of time to make the most of everything Winter Wonderland has to offer this Christmas season. Tickets are available to book through their website.

Longleat Safari Park

For those of you who want to enjoy a Christmas experience from the comfort of your own car, why not consider a trip to Longleat, whose festive days out include a winter safari drive-through. You can also enjoy an enchanted Christmas tree show and various other festive attractions for the whole family, as well as their usual year-round offerings. You’ll be sure to get a full days’ worth of entertainment from a trip to Longleat, which is located just off the A36 near Warminster. Christmas all-in-one day tickets are available to book through the Longleat website.

Warner Bros. Harry Potter studios tour

For any wizards and witches among us, you can even get into the festive spirit with a trip to the Harry Potter studios. With various props used during filming, as well as original sets such as Hogwarts Great Hall and Diagon Alley for you to explore, this is certainly a trip worth making. That’s not all, as between the 13th of November and 16th January the special event ‘Hogwarts in the snow’ puts a Christmas spin on the standard experience. The various sets will be covered in snow, and the Great Hall will be decorated with wreaths, garlands, and trees – just like they were in first film. The studios are based just inside the M25, minutes from Watford town centre. Take a look at the Warner Bros Studios website to get booked in.

National Trust Christmas lights

From Newcastle to Devon, the National Trust has hundreds of gardens and historic houses up and down the UK, many of which are decorated especially for the festive season. With Christmas events taking place all the time in the run up to Christmas day, it would be worth your while to experience one of these light displays with the whole family. Why not take a tour round Treasurer’s House near York city centre, or experience the twinkling lights at Nymans in West Sussex along their illuminated trail? You can visit the National Trust website to find events taking place near you this Christmas.
